“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” These immortal words were spoken on 20th July 1969 when American astronaut Neil Armstrong first set foot on the Moon. Or did he?

Believe it or not, there are many people who are convinced that he never landed on the moon at all. These theorists claim to have proof that it was all an elaborate hoax executed by NASA to beat the Soviets in the space race.

This programme examines both sides of the controversy and reveals, for the first time on television, the so-called ‘fake photos’ – actual photographic evidence that, some claim, proves that the legendary moon landing never happened.

It also investigates the mysterious deaths of ten NASA astronauts in the months leading up to the historic mission.

Doubters and conspiracy theorists present their astonishing arguments, such as that in many official photographs there are no stars in the sky despite the clarity of deep space, that the American flag appears to wave in the breeze even though the moon has no atmosphere, and that there is no blast crater under the Lunar Lander where its powerful rocket engine had fired.

Believers, however, point to the obvious evidence surrounding what has been called the single greatest technological achievement of all time – the lift-off and landing of the spacecraft, the 45+ pounds of moon rocks which scientists have been studying for years, and the statements from the hundreds of NASA commanders, employees and astronauts who have spoken reverently of that historic day 43 years ago.

Is it possible that we never actually went to the Moon? You decide!

US/UK/France Overthrow of Gaddafi’s Libya to Blame for Mali Unrest

Jeff Steinberg, senior editor of the Executive Intelligence Review, believes France, Britain and the United States should be blamed for the unrest in Mali, linking the rebellion in the northern part of the African country to the fall of the Gaddafi regime in Libya.

“The rebel operations in northern Mali have existed for quite some time, but it was only in the aftermath of the overthrow of the Gaddafi government in Libya – which was promoted by France, Britain and the United States in particular – it was only after that that you had a massive flow of weapons out of Libya into the hands of the rebels, which basically took a low-intensity conflict and threw it into a much greater crisis where the rebels outgunned the Malian army,” Steinberg told RT.

So suddenly as a result of one badly-flawed regime-change policy in Libya, we have instability spreading to many parts of the African continent and beyond. So it’s a kind of a supreme irony that the French are being asked to come in and clean up a mess that they themselves helped create by the actions in 2011 in Libya.”

Britain has announced it will provide France with logistical support during its Mali intervention as French forces stepped up airstrikes against Islamist militants fighting government troops in the North African country.

The British prime minister has welcomed France’s decision to intervene in the North African country to help the Malian army halt a rebel advance towards the capital Bamako.

“The Prime Minister has agreed that the UK will provide logistical military assistance to help transport foreign troops and equipment quickly to Mali,” David Cameron’s office said in a statement on Saturday, adding that London is not going to deploy British personnel in a combat role.

Downing Street said two military transport planes would be deployed, AFP says.

Syria’s president has outlined a plan to end the country’s conflict, starting with a halt to international support to “al Qaeda-linked terrorist groups.” The solution proposes a new constitution and government, as well as national reconciliation.

President Bashar Assad said that his government had never refused a political solution, but would not negotiate with terrorists. He then stressed that the only solution was a Syrian proposal to end the crisis.

“The political solution entails regional and international powers halting their support for armed groups, which will be followed by a halt in our security forces’ crackdown against them,” Assad said in his first public address to the people of Syria since June.

He claimed the move would be followed by dialogue with all parties who work in Syria’s interests, in the form of a national conference on the creation of a truce and the drafting of a new constitution to be put to public vote. The charter would form the basis of the new Syrian government.

The final step would be a national reconciliation process, including amnesty for those imprisoned during the crisis.

Assad stated that his government had not yet found any  partners willing to back a solution to Syria’s ongoing crisis. However, he did thank Russia, China and Iran for not “interfering in Syrian affairs.”

He also criticized the Syrian opposition, referring to the rebels as “Western puppets” and “terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda.”

“We have terrorists who follow the ideology of al-Qaeda. We brothers fight against these people. Most of them are not Syrian… We will teach them a lesson,” Assad said.

He called for a national mobilization to fight the “murderous criminals” besieging the country.

“Everyone must defend it… the attack on the entire nation… every citizen who is aware… and refusing to join solutions is taking the nation backwards,” he said.

Assad gave his speech in Damascus’ central opera house to a throng of staunch supporters, who punctuated his speech with cheers of encouragement.

The Syrian leader was mobbed by exultant supporters after the speech.

“With blood and soul we sacrifice for you, O Bashar!” the crowd chanted following the speech.

Weapons Sold to Middle East Countries Have Chip Allowing West to Disable Them

A PressTV correspondent reports the Iranian Spokeman of the Velayat 91 naval drills as saying foreign media has reported the drills as an attempt by Iran to militarize the region, so that the West can sell more weapons to Middle Eastern countries, which he said contain a chip, allowing the West to disable the weapons at any time. “These weapons can only be used if it’s in the interest of these powers,” he said, and suggested countries in the region become self-sufficient in these areas.
